Finding Emails Easily in Gmail

Gmail is my favorite web email. It’s sleek, fast and it’s got tons of cool themes that you can use to style your client the way you want. However, given that Google is a search company, one thing that people forget is the power of Google search within Gmail. Let’s find out how easily you can search for messages that you may have forgotten about.

Label Search in Google

Gmail has a very powerful search engine that helps you find thing where every you may of categorized the email. Say for example, you want to display all items with the label of Apple. That may sound like a simple task of just clicking your label – however its easier than that – just type into the search panel, label: Apple – and there you have it!

Sent Search in Gmail

Now, say that you can find your desired result – but you that you wanted to find a email that contained the word “Hello” and you think that it may be in your Sent box. Have no fear – just type the phrase sent: hello, and it will search your sent box for all email with the word “hello”.

Anywhere Search in Gmail

But alas, you cannot your find the email you wanted. Never fear! Google has a search filer for that! You can use the in: anywhere followed by the search item to search across all folder and labels to try to find the email you want.

These tricks are not the only search tips in Gmail – you can find the whole list of items on Google’s Support website. There are tons of them on there to look at – and perhaps one of them will make your email searching on Gmail a better experience!

Quickly Reply to an E-Mail in Outlook

Something reading email’s can be a pain. If you, like me, receive a lot of them a day, sometimes you just want use your keyboard to scroll through them. However once you reach an email that you want to reply to – I always have to reach for my mouse and click the Reply button in Outlook. It may seem like a small task – but we can make it simpler and faster.

In Outlook – the bar at the top of the window – gives you a nice hint on how to quickly perform functions all from the comfort of your keyboard.

What's all those underlined characters mean?

Any time you have an email highligted in Outlook – you can hold down the ALT button and type any character that is underlined to perform that action. With that said – here are some quick handy short-cuts to reply in Outlook:

Reply = ALT + R

Reply All = ALT + L

Forward = ALT + W

New Message = ALT + N

This will significant increase your productivity and make your email experience in Outlook a much faster one!

HOW TO: Make Apple’s Magic Mouse Better

Did you get a new Apple Magic Mouse for the Holidays? I certainly did – and its awesome! However it lacks some basic features that the original Mighty Mouse had including buttons for Expose, and other cool items. So how do you enable those features in the Magic Mouse?

It’s quite simple using a plugin feature called Magic Pref Pane – which enables you to customize the Magic Mouse the way you like it. Also – its a free plugin for the Mac!

It’s awesome features allow you customize what types of “taps” you would to associate with actions in Mac OS X. This has saved me numerous amounts of time using the new mouse. On my mouse, I have it set that if I click the Mouse with Three fingers – I am able to use Expose to see all open Applications. It’s amazing!

One of the biggest problems I had with the old Mighty Mouse is that the “Scroll Ball” always got stuck due to oil from my finger overtime. With the new Magic Mouse – now I can just scroll freely with the touch, and customize the “virtual” buttons to my liking!

Minimize To Desktop With Ease

Looking at something that you weren’t supposed to be looking at at work? Want a quicker way to minimize everything you have to just show your desktop? Well now – you can with one simple shortcut.

With all your windows up – just press Windows Key + D – and your windows will magically minimize to the task bar. Sometimes this is just easier than mousing over the “Show Desktop” button. This tip works in any version of Windows.

Hopefully this will save you some time and make you organize your desktop better!

Changing Uppercase to Lower Case Quickly

Do you ever get annoyed with people that always type in CAPITAL letters? Ever receive an email from a person that you needed to forward to someone else but were embarrassed because it was all in CAPS? Well if your using a Windows based computer in either Word or Outlook – you can now quickly change the capitalization with one easy click. Just highlight the text that you want to change, and hold down SHIFT and press F3. This change all capital letters to lowercase. If you keep holding SHIFT and press F3 – it will toggle you through some options including only capitalizing the first letter of the word. Although it only works in Microsoft Word and Outlook – it’s still a time saving short-cut tool that will save you time and energy.
